CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a bill into law that creates a regulatory framework for private and police use of drones.
The governor signed AB239 on Tuesday. The bill unanimously passed the Assembly and Senate.
The measure was sponsored by Democratic Assemblyman Elliot Anderson and creates new regulations on how police agencies and public citizens can fly unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones.
The measure sets limits on how low a drone can fly before it's considered to be trespassing, and requires a warrant for certain police observations by a drone on a private home.
It limits how close a drone can fly to a "critical facility" like electrical plants and prohibits people from arming and firing weapons from drones.
The law takes full effect in October 2015.
