Fire forces 20 residents from apartment building

A fire at an apartment building on Swenson Street near Twain Avenue this morning displaced 20 people and caused about $50,000 damage, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Crews were called about 8:40 a.m. to a two-story building at Mi Casita apartments, 3600 Swenson St., according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported.

Flames and smoke from an apartment on the second floor spread to three other apartments, officials said.

Emergency personnel found two cats, one of which had to be resuscitated, and Animal Control took custody of both animals, the department said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada was assisting the displaced families, officials said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue also responded to the blaze.
