Nevada insurance commissioner announces resignation

CARSON CITY — State Commissioner of Insurance Scott Kipper has resigned effective July 2. Kipper served as head of the Nevada Division of Insurance starting in 2008 and took a break for about a year before being reappointed in 2011.

No reason was given for his departure. Kipper could not be reached about his future plans.

His position as commissioner focuses on protecting the rights of insurance consumers and regulating the $12 billion industry in Nevada. Kipper led the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the state.

“It has been an honor to have served the state of Nevada as commissioner. I am proud of the division’s accomplishments,” he said in a statement.

A replacement has not yet been named.

Kipper was previously deputy commissioner in charge of the Office of Health Insurance for the Louisiana Department of Insurance, and CEO of the Louisiana Office of Group Benefits. He also has served as the Oregon insurance administrator.
