Coroner IDs man killed in drive-by shooting near downtown

A man fatally shot Friday night near downtown has been identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Mark Zimmerman, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Zimmerman, whose city of residence was not released, died of a shotgun wound to the head in a shooting in the 800 block of North D Street, near Washington Avenue, according to the Coroner’s Office and Metro Police.

Officers were called about 8:30 p.m. and found Zimmerman dead at the scene, according to Metro Police.

Homicide detectives believe Zimmerman was on the side of the road when he was approached by a pickup truck; the front passenger fired one round at Zimmerman before the vehicle fled, police said.

The truck is described as a white, four-door pickup with dual wheels in the back, tinted windows and a yellow stripe on the passenger side, police said.

This is the 50th homicide investigated by Metro this year, police said.
