A 46-year-old man was arrested on a count of murder Sunday night after a man he was dating died at their downtown apartment following a domestic dispute that turned violent, Metro Police said.

Police were called about 6:40 p.m. to the apartment in the 700 block of North 10th Street, near East Bonanza Road, where a man was on the floor, police said. The man, who was in his late 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Allen Pierce, the victim’s boyfriend, was arrested, police said. Police said they believe an argument between the men turned into a physical fight that resulted in the victim’s death.

Pierce was being held without bail at the Clark County jail and was scheduled for a hearing at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to jail records.

Pierce has a criminal record that includes a sexual assault conviction in Glenwood Springs, Colo., in May 1999, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety's sex offender registry.

The victim’s name and cause of death have not yet been released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

It was the 51st homicide investigated by Metro Police this year.
