Henderson girl, 15, killed in single-car crash near Ely

A 15-year-old Henderson girl was killed Monday near Ely when the car she was riding in went out of control and overturned, throwing her from the vehicle, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The teen passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Her name has not been released.

Troopers responded to the crash about 11:10 a.m. on U.S. 93, about 47 miles north of Ely, officials said.

The driver, Angela Brooks, 18, of Las Vegas was heading north when she crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road, officials said.

She cut back across the highway onto the right shoulder before trying to pull back onto the road and overturning, officials said.

Brooks, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered only minor injuries, officials said.
