What started out as a truck fire has caused half a million dollars in damage to three homes in the northwest valley, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters responded to the call at 2:55 p.m. on North Michael Way, near Lake Mead and Decatur boulevards, and were still trying to contain the fire as of 6 p.m.

Flames from a pickup truck that caught fire spread to branches hanging above it, then to the first home, which suffered extensive damage. Flares and embers quickly spread to the other two houses.

Homes in the surrounding area have been safely evacuated; no injuries have been reported, officials said.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown.
