Las Vegas firefighters pulled a man from a burning house Thursday in the northwest valley and treated him for smoke inhalation, officials said. A second person also was out of the house, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

The fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. at a two-story house in the 6500 block of Villa Mesa Drive, near Washington Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive, officials said.

Crews reported heavy fire at the house but had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, officials said.

The fire apparently began outside of the home on the rear patio and traveled up a wall to the second floor, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said.

It resulted in about $75,000 in damage, and the official cause has not been determined, the department said.

A displaced senior couple is being assisted by the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation, the fire department said. Family members also showed up to help, the department said.
