Power outages impact more than 2,300 NV Energy customers

Updated Monday, June 22, 2015 | 1:06 p.m.

A power outage in the northwest valley affected more than 2,200 NV Energy customers this morning, a company spokesman said.

The outage, reported at 9:54 a.m. near North Fort Apache and Elkhorn roads, impacted 2,236 customers, according to NV Energy spokesman Mark Severts. Crews restored service by noon, he said.

Another reported outage in the northwest valley near North Hualapai Way and Dorrell Lane was affecting 55 customers as of 12:45 p.m., the NV Energy Outage Center website said. Service to that group of customers was expected to be restored by 3:15 p.m., the website said.

The cause of both outages was under investigation, according to the website.

The outages were just two incidents affecting NV Energy customers this morning.

A car crash in North Las Vegas near East Lone Mountain Road and Losee Road caused an outage about 8:15 a.m. that left 64 customers without power as of 12:30 p.m., according to the website and North Las Vegas Police.

The accident has since been cleared, but NV Energy crews were working to restore service, according to North Las Vegas Police Officer Steven Wiese and NV Energy.

Equipment failure, meanwhile, was blamed for at least two outages in the southeast valley this morning, according to NV Energy’s Outage Center.

Heat and heavy use can cause strain on equipment, and crews have responded to multiple accidents involving power equipment hit by vehicles this week, Severts said.
