Man seeking to create political party in Nevada mispronounces state’s name

CARSON CITY — An Illinois man, who failed to correctly pronounce Nevada, wants to form a political party in this state and be its presidential candidate.

Dennis Andrew Ball said today he needs the signatures of 9,800 registered voters to get on the 2016 ballot. He has visited nine other states seeking to form a political party called the American Party of America.

During a news conference today, he twice mispronounced Nevada — calling it “Nevaahda.” His announcement took place on the second floor of the state Capitol in the old Assembly chambers. No supporters were present.

Ball said his party, once it qualifies for the ballot, will have its national convention in St. Louis next year, and he will seek the party’s presidential nomination.
