A man and a boy trapped in a mine near Lake Mead this morning by a rattlesnake are now out of the mine, according to the National Park Service.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials received a call about 10:40 a.m. reporting the pair were trapped in a mine shaft near Ore Car Mine off of Northshore Road, according to a news release from the park service.

They told officials about noon they couldn’t leave because a rattlesnake was blocking their path, the park service said.

The Henderson Fire Department, Metro Police Search and Rescue, and the Bureau of Land Management were asked to respond, the service said.

Park officials tweeted about 12:20 p.m. that the pair were safely out of the mine. Medics were on scene in case they were needed, officials said.
