Nevada taxable sales up again in April

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s taxable sales in April rose 5.5 percent, with strong sales of cars, furniture, food and beverages.

It was the 57th straight month of increases in taxable sales, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Statewide sales reached $4.1 billion, the agency reported.

Clark County sales jumped 6.8 percent and sales in Washoe County were up 4 percent. Nine of Nevada’s 17 counties saw a decrease in sales.

In Clark County, bars and restaurants reported a 15.9 percent jump in sales compared to April 2014. Sale of building materials rose 11.4 percent; furniture sales were up 27.3 percent; and car sales increased 9.8 percent.

Clothing stores in Clark County reported a decline of 7.4 per compared to April 2014, and general merchandise sales were down 0.7 percent.

The department reported the state collected $31.9 million in taxes from the sales, a gain of 6.3 percent from a year ago.
