The man apparently approached the group with a knife about 11 p.m. at the complex in the 1600 block of East Rochelle Avenue, Officer Michael Rodriguez said.

The group restrained the man, and he was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Rodriguez said.

It was not immediately clear what caused his death.
