Pipes protected more than people

I just completed installation of three backflow valves on a commercial property. To protect the valves from possible car strikes, the Las Vegas Valley Water District required installing eight bollards, each 4-inch thick schedule 40 steel pipes, 6 feet tall, filled with concrete, painted with OSHA safety paint and with reflective tape at the top.

If only two of these posts were installed on the curb and sidewalk facing oncoming traffic near each bus stop, we might prevent or reduce the severity of accidents.

Aren’t people more important than backflow valves?
