Police deem suspicious package at park safe

A suspicious package that prompted the evacuation of a southeast valley park turned out to be nothing dangerous, according to Metro Police.

A caller reported the package about 11:30 a.m. at the park in the 5700 block of Missouri Avenue, near Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Visitors were evacuated from the park, which is near the Whitney Community Center. Police determined about 1:30 p.m. that the object was not a threat., police said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue’s bomb squad also responded to the scene, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
