After more than four years of operation, the Book & Stage sportsbook and sometime-music venue at the Cosmopolitan will close July 12. The space, located on the casino’s first floor, is set to be replaced by a new lounge.

“We are constantly looking to add unique and compelling experiences to the resort and will be announcing an exciting lounge concept over the next month in the former Book & Stage space,” resort reps said in statement announcing the closure.

The Cosmopolitan offered no further explanation as to why Book and Stage will shutter, though the property has at times struggled with how to make use of the venue since it first opened in late 2010.

The space originally launched as a combination sportsbook, bar and music venue, offering an intimate lounge environment with free multinight-stand performances from rising musical acts like Aloe Blacc, Best Coast, Mayer Hawthorne and Young the Giant.

Though the concerts were popular among both locals and visitors, they weren’t enough to keep crowds — and their wallets — on property once the sets were over. Performances have been significantly scaled back in recent years to holidays and special occasions. The Cosmopolitan’s website currently bills the venue as a sports bar and lounge.
