Police: Boulder Highway blocked in connection with stabbing probe

Updated Tuesday, March 3, 2015 | 4:55 p.m.

A stabbing suspect led police on a brief chase this morning on a busy freeway but got away when the pursuit became too risky to continue, Metro Police said.

Officer Laura Meltzer said the suspect stabbed a woman just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of Fremont Street and Charleston Boulevard downtown. Her injuries were serious but not life threatening, she said.

The man drove off and led officers on a brief pursuit along U.S. 95 before police called off the chase near the Spaghetti Bowl because of concerns about heavy traffic, Meltzer said.

Meltzer said officers have identified a potential suspect and were searching for him.

All lanes of northbound Boulder Highway between Lamb Boulevard and U.S. 95 were blocked this afternoon as police investigated the use of force in the chase, Officer Larry Hadfield said.

The lanes were back open just after 4 p.m., according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
