Ruptured water pipe on Las Vegas Strip fixed; traffic still slow

Updated Wednesday, March 11, 2015 | 3:35 p.m.

A ruptured water pipe that cut water to some casinos on the Las Vegas Strip has been repaired, according to the Las Vegas Valley Water District.

The break was reported about 6 a.m. after a contractor hit a 30-inch pipeline while working on a project, Water District spokesman Damon Hodge said. He did not have any details about the project.

Affected resorts and commercial properties such as the MGM Grand and Monte Carlo were serviced by another water line after the mishap, Hodge said.

Two northbound traffic lanes were closed for about eight hours on Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and Harmon avenues, officials said.

Crews repaired the damaged pipe just before 2:15 p.m., Hodge said.

Traffic was still moving slowly in the area because parts of the road were torn up to make the fix, officials said.
