1 pedestrian killed, 1 injured crossing Rancho Drive

A man was killed and another seriously injured tonight after being hit by a sport utility vehicle in the northwest valley, Metro Police said.

Police received reports about 8:30 p.m. of an accident with injuries in the 4400 block of North Rancho Drive, north of the intersection with West Craig Road, Lt. Yaz Yatomi said.

The SUV was north on Rancho Drive when it hit the men crossing the street, she said. The pedestrians were not in a crosswalk, she said.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, Yatomi said.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, she said.

Lanes on northbound and southbound Rancho Drive in the area are expected to be closed for several hours, Yatomi said.
