Coroner IDs woman who jumped from Spaghetti Bowl overpass

Updated Wednesday, March 18, 2015 | 5:10 p.m.

A woman Metro Police say jumped to her death from an overpass at the Spaghetti Bowl on Tuesday has been identified as Rocio Nava, 36, of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Police received calls about 5:30 p.m. that a woman intentionally crashed her vehicle into a barrier, got out of the vehicle and jumped over the side of the Interstate 15 overpass to U.S. 95 northbound, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Nava was involved in a domestic violence call about 30 minutes earlier in the 5200 block of Carol Circle, near Swenson Street and Hacienda Avenue, Meltzer said.

Nava's husband, Ernesto Nava, told KSNV-TV that his wife grabbed a gun and tried to shoot him after he told her he wanted a divorce.

He says the gun jammed and he wrestled it away from her before calling 911.

Officer Laura Meltzer said police were talking with the husband Tuesday afternoon at the couple's home when reports came in that a woman crashed her car and leaped over the side of I-15.

Nevada Highway Patrol received initial reports that a woman jumped out of her car on an upper ramp at the Spaghetti Bowl and fell onto a lower ramp, Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

Nava was transported to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Meltzer said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the incident, spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Las Vegas Sun reporter Adwoa Fosu and the Associate Press contributed to this report.
