Court won’t allow killer to withdraw guilty plea

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has refused to allow killer Charles Garner III to withdraw his guilty plea to first-degree murder and other charges in the shooting death of another man outside a North Las Vegas bar in 2008.

Garner was sentenced to life without possibility of parole in the death of

Anthony Tony Wright. The District Attorney’s Office had initially sought the death penalty.

The court this week upheld the decision of former District Court Judge Jerome Tao, who declined to allow Garner to withdraw the plea because Garner received a substantial benefit by avoiding the death penalty.
