Residents in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson will get a chance to cast their ballots in the upcoming municipal primary election beginning Saturday with the start of early voting.

Each city will have a mix of permanent and mobile polling locations for the two weeks of early voting, which runs through April 3.

A total of 10 contested races for city council and municipal judge seats across the three cities will be on the ballot.

Many of those races will be decided at the April 7 primary, because only two candidates are running. If any candidates receive more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary, they will win their race outright without having to compete in the June general election. If no candidate in a race breaks the 50 percent threshold, the top two vote getters will square off on June 2.

In Las Vegas, the ballot is headlined by a mayoral bout featuring incumbent Carolyn Goodman, who’s trying to stave off a challenge from fellow City Council member Stavros Anthony. Three other City Council members — Lois Tarkanian, Bob Coffin and Ricki Barlow — have also drawn challengers in their runs for re-election.

All registered voters in Las Vegas can vote in the mayor’s race, but only residents in Wards 1, 3 and 5 can vote in their respective city council races.

Las Vegas will have early voting from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday during both weeks of early voting at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 Fourth St.

The city will also have a polling location open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m every day of early voting at the Meadows Mall, 4300 Meadows Lane.

Polling sites will also be open on various days and at various times throughout the community.

In Henderson, three incumbent City Council members — Sam Bateman, Gerri Schroder and Debra March — face contested races as they seek another term.

Henderson voters can cast a ballot in each of the three council races, regardless of where they live in the city.

The city will have an early voting location at Henderson City Hall, 240 S. Water St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday both weeks of early voting.

The polling location at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road, will be open every day of early voting, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Polling will also take place on various dates throughout the city at locations including the Gibson Library, Paseo Verde Library, the Silver Springs Recreation Center and Solera at Anthem Community Center.

North Las Vegas has two City Council races but only one incumbent — Pamlea Goynes-Brown, running in Ward 2 — while the seat in Ward 4 is open.

Only residents in Ward 2 and Ward 4 will be able to vote in their respective city council races.

Early voting will be held at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday during both weeks of early voting.

Aliante Library, 2400 W. Deer Springs Way, will have early voting from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
