letter to the editor:

The Republican race to the bottom

There is a disturbing similarity between Nevada and Wisconsin. While Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker makes no bones about his hatred of unions, here in Nevada our governor isn’t quite so blatant. Nevertheless, the Republican-controlled Legislature is wasting no time attacking unions, and Gov. Brian Sandoval continues to support measures detrimental to middle-class workers. The worst part is that the Republican-led Legislature has no intention of fixing something it believes is broken. Why bother when you can just do away with it?

Prevailing wage on school projects. Gone! Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) reform. Wait and see. The list goes on and on, when in reality every one of these concerns could be tweaked to work better for everyone.

Wait, it just dawned on me: The real problem isn’t bad legislators, it’s that the majority of legislators in Nevada are attorneys — the same guys who ask, “Need a check?” “Did you use vaginal mesh? Call Bad Drug.”

Everyone wants a better Nevada, but like wishing you could win the lottery, you have to play. The same applies for good government.

See what you get when you don’t vote!
