Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona vs. Xavier

Pac-12 title game

John Locher / AP

Arizona’s Brandon Ashley holds up the most outstanding player of the tournament trophy after Arizona defeated Oregon in an NCAA college basketball game in the championship of the Pac-12 conference tournament Saturday, March 14, 2015, in Las Vegas.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Arizona minus-10.5 vs. Xavier: $330 to win $300

I’m more concerned about a backdoor cover than I am with No. 6 seed Xavier covering this game by keeping it close.

One of the biggest disappointments with this bracket, for me, is that both No. 2 seed Arizona and No. 1 seed Wisconsin are in the same region, and that region is on the same side of the bracket as Kentucky. I think it’s possible Arizona-Wisconsin will be the best game of the tournament and the winner of that vs. Kentucky in the Final Four will be better than whatever we get in the national championship.

Obviously those teams have to take care of their business to even create those matchups and I’m confident they will. The Wildcats easily advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, and I don’t think Xavier is going to be able to keep up.

Arizona has won 13 straight and rarely had to sweat any of them out. Today should be more of the same.
