We won’t fall for the Yucca joke

Presumptive GOP presidential candidate John Ellis Bush (“Jeb”) said during his Greenville, S.C., stop: “I’d have to look at what the other options are and the alternatives are, to be honest with you.” This is in reference to whether Yucca Mountain in Nevada (90 miles northwest of Las Vegas) should be used as the nation’s nuclear dumping ground.

Oh, good! I am so delighted Bush is being honest.

Simply put, have we ever heard of a state putting $1.47 billion into a fund to pay for anything in another state? That is what South Carolina has done to move their nuclear waste here. I think $1.47 billion could employ a whole lot of employees and industry to create their own repository for nuclear waste. Even transporting the stuff here can have dire consequences (and we all know Murphy’s Law). With this kind of venture, we cannot take chances that things will fall through the cracks, either on the road or deep in the ground.

We here in Nevada are at 2,000 feet elevation and higher, but we are not airheads falling for an unfunny joke: Yuk-Yuk, Yucca!
