Updated Monday, March 30, 2015 | 2:17 p.m.

BOULDER CITY — The Boulder City police chief says a man shot and killed by two patrol officers fetched a handgun from inside his home and began firing at officers before he died.

Police Chief William Conger said Monday the shooting about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in a downtown neighborhood was the first officer-involved shooting in Boulder City in almost 10 years.

The man was pronounced dead at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. His name wasn't immediately made public.

The officers weren't injured. Conger says they were investigating a report of gunfire near 5th Street and Avenue A when the man retrieved his gun and confronted them.

Boulder City is about 25 miles east of Las Vegas.

The last fatal police shooting in the city involved 32-year-old Jeffrey Dean Martindale in September 2005.
