Plan ahead if flying out of McCarran or you may not be able to leave until Wednesday

McCarran International Airport is expecting up to 85,000 people to leave Las Vegas today after the Fight of the Century.

What are airport officials saying passengers need to know? Today is not the day to miss your flight.

Christine Crews of McCarran said plane occupancy is at 100 percent through Tuesday. Missing your flight today means you may not be able to find a flight home until Wednesday.

Typically, planes are at 87 percent occupancy, Crews said. There were 757,000 scheduled seats coming in and out of McCarran, booked several months in advance, for fight weekend from Thursday to Monday.

Print your boarding pass ahead of time, show up to the airport two hours before your departure and prepare for lines, Crews said.

Passengers flying in to Las Vegas have been taking pictures of the wing-to-wing sites from the sky. This one of private jets arriving hours before the fight at McCarran was especially common.

Crews said private jet airlines flying in were Atlantic and Signature, and by 2:30 p.m., the west side airfield where the jets land was full. One of the taxiways at the airport was shut down to allow more space for incoming jets, she said.

McCarran has been preparing for this weekend for months. Increased staff, customer service agents, security guards, as well as approved overtime for TSA employees, have all been part of the fight weekend preparations, Crews said.

Crews reported that everything seemed to be running smoothly so far today. Travelers on Twitter have even made it through the airport without having to put up a fight.
