Alabama’s Altee Tenpenny finds an opening in the Kentucky defensive line during the fourth quarter of an NCAA football game Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, Ky. Alabama defeated Kentucky 48-7.

UNLV football’s newest addition is a former four-star running back looking for a second chance after falling down the depth chart at Alabama.

Altee Tenpenny, who in January left the Crimson Tide, announced today on his private Instagram account that he would transfer to the Rebels. The post says “Next stop! #thenewera #unlv #rebels” with a photo of former student Alex Salvo holding up a Photoshopped sign reading “Let’s go Tenpenny” over a background of UNLV players running onto the field at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Tenpenny will have to redshirt this season and then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Tenpenny ran for 218 yards on 48 carries over two seasons as he struggled to find a consistent role in Alabama’s stacked backfield. He’s listed at 6 feet, 218 pounds and signed with the Crimson Tide as the No. 53 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Also, in addition to the four former Rebels who signed free agent deals on Saturday, UNLV announced three more players received invites to team mini-camps. Defensive lineman Jordan Sparkman will go to the Jacksonville Jaguars, while defensive backs Mike Horsey and Tajh Hasson will get their shots with the Green Bay Packers and the Baltimore Ravens, respectively.
