A 79-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police say he admitted to killing his girlfriend of 30 years.

At 12:47 p.m., Metro Police officers arrived at a home in the 1600 block of Cookson Court to conduct a welfare check on Joseph Frohlich at the request of his sister, police said.

According to a police report, the sister called police after Frohlich kept her from entering his home and told her something had happened to his girlfriend, Christine McQuade.

Police found Frohlich in the master bedroom with McQuade's body, according to the report.

She was lying on her back with a puddle of blood under her head and her hands at her sides. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

In an interview with police, Frohlich admitted to choking McQuade around 3 a.m. the night before as she slept, police said.

He then smashed her head on a dresser or nightstand, according to police.

Frolich was arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, police said.

This is the 35th homicide investigated by Metro Police so far this year.
