Coroner IDs man, 71, who died after crash in Spring Valley

A 71-year-old man who died after the pickup truck he was driving hit two vehicles near a Spring Valley intersection has been identified as Mike M. Shawa of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Shawa was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 south on Rainbow Boulevard near Flamingo Road when the truck sideswiped a southbound 2005 Toyota Prius, Metro Police said.

The truck, which was traveling slowly, also hit a trailer attached to a commercial truck that was stopped at the intersection, police said.

Shawa was unresponsive at the scene; he was taken to Spring Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A witness said Shawa may have suffered a medical episode before the accident, police said.

The official cause and manner of his death have not yet been released by the Coroner’s Office.
