Coroner IDs man shot to death at apartment complex

Fatal Shooting

A man fatally shot Saturday afternoon at an apartment complex near the Boulevard Mall has been identified as 24-year-old Nickey Zarwood of Philadelphia, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Zarwood died of a gunshot wound of the chest, the Coroner’s Office said.

Officers were called about 3:50 p.m. to the 1600 block of East Katie Avenue, near East Flamingo Road and South Maryland Parkway, to investigate a report of a possible shooting, according to Metro Police.

Police found Zarwood on the ground near the apartment complex’s office, police said. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Zarwood was standing next to a vehicle in the complex’s south parking lot, arguing with the driver, when the driver got out of the vehicle and fired one round, police said.

Zarwood ran toward the office, where he collapsed; the suspect drove off, police said.

Police described the suspect as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man driving a black or dark gray sports car with tinted windows.

The death was the 40th homicide investigated by Metro this year.
