Metro Police investigate a fatal shooting on Royal Crest Circle near Twain Avenue and Swenson Street Monday, May 11, 2015.

A man who died after being shot Monday afternoon near Twain Avenue and Swenson Street as the result of a possible drug deal has been identified as 39-year-old Jon Cyril Collins, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Collins, whose city of residence has not been released, died of a gunshot wound of the chest after the shooting at an apartment complex parking lot, located in the 600 block of South Royal Crest Circle, according to the Coroner's Office and Metro Police.

Police responded about 2:15 p.m. Monday to reports of shots fired and a man on the ground at the complex, and when they arrived on scene, officers found Collins with a gunshot wound, police said.

He apparently arrived at the complex in a vehicle with three other people and was getting out of the vehicle when he was shot by a rear-seat passenger, police said.

The passenger in the front seat exited the vehicle and stayed with Collins, but the two men in the back seat fled the scene on foot, police said.

Collins was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police described the two passengers who fled only as black men.

This is the 42nd homicide investigated by Metro this year.
