Updated Tuesday, May 12, 2015 | 12:59 p.m.

A scooter rider was killed Monday night when he crashed and skidded into a car that turned in front of him at the intersection of Grand Teton Drive and Cimarron Road, Metro Police said.

A 2009 Nissan Maxima was headed east on Grand Teton about 9:30 p.m. when the driver turned left at Cimarron into the path of the scooter, which was westbound, police said. The scooter rider braked but crashed and slid into the car, police said.

The rider, a 20-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Evan Michael Thompson.

The driver of the car, a 35-year-old Las Vegas woman, was not injured, police said.

Police noted that the intersection is under construction with lanes reduced and redirected by orange cones and barrels.

The Nissan driver was not suspected of being impaired, police said. The collision is under investigation.
