letter to the editor:

Information may have changed bets

After his fight with Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao admitted he had a shoulder injury and had known about it since training camp. His team thought he would be allowed an injection the night of the fight, but it was disallowed since it was too late for the Nevada Athletic Commission to fully investigate.

The problem I have with this is that the betting public was not aware of his injury. A lot of money was bet on Pacquiao thinking he was at 100 percent. Many times during interviews before the fight, Manny said he was ready to go and that he was 100 percent healthy. I did not bet on the fight, but if I had, I think this bit of information would have helped me decide whom I would be putting my money on. Had I known he was going to fight Mayweather using only one hand, I would have bet the house on Mayweather. Likewise, I would not have paid $99.95 to watch it on pay-per-view.

I think the public was deceived, and I truly believe there is ground for an investigation of Pacquiao and his team for fraud. This is tantamount to “insider trading” in the stock market. It’s vital information that only select people knew. Those who knew had an advantage — an advantage to make a lot of money. Can you imagine if you had this information prior to the fight?
