CARSON CITY — Nevada lawmakers plan to review a measure that supporters say would make it easier for voters to participate in presidential elections.
The Assembly Legislative Operations and Elections Committee plans to hear SB 421 on Tuesday.
The measure would allow national political party heads to change Nevada's current caucus system for selecting a presidential candidate to a primary election. Supporters say the change would increase voter turnout and avoid a confusing caucus process.
It would also move the primary election date to the last Tuesday in February. The primary is currently held in June.
The Senate approved the measure on an 11-9 vote earlier in May, with Democrats opposing because the change in date for primary elections could lead to longer political campaigns.
