Number of first-time unemployment claims hits 7-month low

CARSON CITY — The number of people in Nevada filing initial claims for unemployment benefits fell in April to its lowest point in seven months.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today that 13,550 people submitted initial claims. It was the smallest number since August, when 13,063 first-time claims were filed.

Department economist Bill Anderson said the number of first-time claims in April was down 9.3 percent from the same month last year.
