NLV Police issue 239 citations in operation targeting speeders

North Las Vegas Police issued 239 citations during a week of saturation patrols on major roads with a history of speeding and traffic crashes, officials said.

The operation, conducted May 2 to 8, focused specifically on Craig Road between Decatur Street and Interstate 15, police said.

Of the citations issued, 100 were for speeding, police said. A total of 118 warnings also were handed out.

The extra patrols were part of the Joining Forces program. North Las Vegas Police received $168,000 in federal funding through the Nevada Department of Public Safety — Office of Traffic Safety for the 2015 Joining Forces program.

The grant provides funding for enforcement and education to reduce traffic deaths and injuries.

Enforcement events during the year will focus on pedestrian safety, seat belt use, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving.
