Man seriously hurt, another arrested in hit-and-run near UNLV, police say

A pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries and a driver was arrested on felony counts after a hit-and-run crash involving eight cars Saturday morning near UNLV, Metro Police said.

According to police:

The crash occurred about 2:10 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Explorer headed north in the southbound lanes of Paradise Road made a left turn onto westbound Naples Drive and hit the right side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee as it was stopped for a pedestrian.

The Explorer’s driver continued west and hit the front of a Scion XB taxicab that had stopped to load passengers. The driver then headed southwest, hitting the pedestrian with the left front of the car and knocking him to the road.

The pedestrian was taken to Sunrise Hospital with serious injuries.

Continuing southwest, the Explorer’s driver hit the left side of an eastbound Mercedes-Benz.

The Ford Explorer’s left front wheel assembly became displaced as it traveled southwest, and the driver drove off the south side of the road, striking the back of a parked Toyota Camry and the front and back of two parked Volkswagens.

The driver fled on foot when the Explorer came to rest after hitting the front of a parked Ford Mustang. He was followed by a witness and eventually arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident remains under investigation.
