A fire broke out in a downtown apartment this morning in an apparent arson, causing an estimated $15,000 in damage, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Dispatchers received multiple calls at 6:10 a.m. about a fire at a two-story, four-unit apartment building in the 100 block of South 15th Street, near East Carson Avenue.

No injuries were reported, the department said.

Firefighters who arrived on scene saw flames and smoke coming out of two windows of an upstairs apartment.

Crews were able to confine the fire to the one apartment and had it under control in seven minutes, the department said.

Two bedrooms in the apartment were destroyed, and the apartment below it had minor water damage, the department said. The other two units in the building smelled of smoke.

Investigators ruled the fire an arson.

The resident of the damaged apartment was not present when firefighters arrived, and that individual is a person of interest, the department said.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is on scene.

Though seven people live in the building, it is unclear how many will be displaced due to the damage, the department said.
