Revived bill would allow concealed guns at Nevada colleges

CARSON CITY — Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a revived proposal to allow permit holders to bring concealed guns onto college campuses.

Republican Assemblyman James Oscarson presented AB487 to the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

The hot-button measure would allow concealed-weapon permit holders to carry concealed guns on college campuses and store firearms in locked cars.

Oscarson and a handful of Assembly Republicans introduced the bill after helping defeat an amendment adding so-called "campus carry" to a separate Senate bill. He said he wanted to keep the measures separate to give both a better chance of passing.

Republican committee chair Assemblyman Ira Hansen didn't allow testimony on the bill and said similar measures have already been heard by lawmakers.

The committee did not vote on the bill.
