letters to the editor:

Jeb Bush’s mistake mirrors his father’s

Ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has backtracked on his Iraq remarks made May 10 in an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. Bush said he would have authorized the 2003 invasion of Iraq, as his brother and then-President George W. Bush did. Four days later, in a complete reversal of his earlier remarks, Jeb Bush said, “I would have not engaged; I would not have gone into Iraq.” It seems Jeb Bush has just blown any chance he may have had of getting the nod as the GOP’s presidential candidate. There is no question that if he did somehow get the GOP nod, his back-and-forth statements about Iraq would be used against him, just as his father’s (President George H.W. Bush) comments were used against him when he said, ”Read my lips: No new taxes.” That ended up costing him the election in 1992, losing to Bill Clinton.
