Of 2,500 drivers who passed through a sobriety checkpoint that started Thursday night, 10 were arrested on DUI counts, Metro Police said. An additional eight motorists were cited for other traffic violations, police said.
A total of 26 personnel were assigned to the checkpoint, which was in place from 7 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. today on Rancho Road at Coran Lane, police said.
Police tested a total of 31 drivers for impairment. The number arrested on DUI counts amounted to 0.4 percent of those who passed through the checkpoint.
Metro says it has a zero-tolerance stance toward drug- and alcohol-impaired driving. The checkpoint was aimed at getting impaired drivers off the road before they could get into an accident, police said.
