‘There is no appetite to hear it’: Nevada’s campus-carry bill dead

A bill that would allow people to carry concealed weapons on Nevada university and community college campuses has died.

The Assembly on Friday approved the “campus carry” bill 26-16, with Democrats opposed. However, Sen. Greg Brower, R-Reno, said Saturday that his Judiciary Committee will not consider AB-487.

“There is no appetite to hear it,” said Brower, the chairman of the committee.

As a result, the bill that raised so much controversy will apparently not make it out of the Legislature, which is scheduled to adjourn Monday.

Students and faculty members, particularly those at the University of Nevada Reno, opposed the legislation.

Supporters argued that there was a constitutional right for people with concealed-weapons permits to be on campuses with a gun.
