CARSON CITY — In its 26 years, the 8K race that opens Nevada Day festivities has never had a governor as a participant.
Gov. Brian Sandoval broke the trend, joining the race and covering 4.97-mile course Saturday in 45 minutes, 39 seconds. He finished 101st out of 254 runners.
After completing the run, Sandoval walked 3 miles in the Nevada Day parade, waving at the crowd along the main street in Carson City.
There were also more than 200 runners/walkers in a 2-mile race to support Guide Dogs for the Blind.
