Four teens injured after driving onto train tracks

Two teenagers sustained substantial injuries and two others sustained minor injuries after they attempted to cross Union Pacific Railway tracks in the southern part of the valley, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

The incident occurred at 4:22 a.m., when a 2012 Ford F-150 traveling east on Robindale Road, just east of Lindell Road, left the paved road and traveled up a 5-foot embankment covered by train tracks.

The front of the Ford struck the railroad ties and track before coming to rest on the east side of the railroad tracks.

A 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse following the Ford also left the paved road and traveled up the embankment to the train tracks. The front of the Mitsubishi struck the railroad ties and track before landing nose down on the east side of the tracks and then coming to rest on its roof.

The 15- and 18-year-old passengers of the Ford were taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

The drivers of the Ford and Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries and were suspected of driving under the influence. They were taken to the Clark County Detention Center for more testing.

The collision remains under investigation.
