Three-state chase of stolen car ends in apparent suicide south of Hoover Dam

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Arizona authorities say an ex-convict was found dead after apparently shooting herself when a stolen car ran out of gas following a three-state chase.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says Nevada Highway Patrol and National Park Service officers found 28-year-old Nicolette Alexzandranne Avery of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, dead in the car on U.S. 93 south of Hoover Dam.

The office says detectives determined that no officers fired their weapons.

A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman told the Kingman Daily Miner that the chase Saturday began in California's San Bernardino County.

Witnesses said the chase reached speeds up to 100 mph.

Records say Avery was released from an Arizona prison in 2014 after serving five months of a nine-month sentence on drug and criminal impersonation convictions in Mohave County.
