Live Blog: Las Vegas Sun hosting high school basketball media day at South Point

Media Day

Sports editor Ray Brewer, second from left (and the shortest), joins Coronado players at the Las Vegas Sun high school basketball media day at the South Point, Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015.

The South Point will host high school basketball players and coaches from various Southern Nevada schools tonight for the Las Vegas Sun’s high school basketball media day.

Officials representing programs in the preseason Top 10 will be photographed and interviewed to preview the upcoming season. Four-time Division-I state champion Bishop Gorman was the sure-thing pick for No. 1 in the rankings, but will be challenged by second-ranked Centennial. Three teams for the Division I-A are also part of the Top 10, including two-time defending state champion Clark.

Players from the Sun’s Super Seven preseason boys and girls all-city teams, featuring the likes of Gonzaga signee Zach Collins and top 2017 recruit Troy Brown Jr., will also be interviewed for a profile video and story. They each receive an all-city jersey.

Story, photos and videos from the event will appear at the end of November.

It’s sponsored by Wingstop, which is providing chicken and fries for players, South Point and the Department of Public Safety.

The Sun hosted a similar event last July for high school football.
