The 2014 National Christmas Tree stands near the White House during the lighting ceremony at the Ellipse in Washington, Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014.

U.S. Rep. Dina Titus will bring a little bit of Las Vegas to Washington, D.C., this holiday season.

The Democrat, who represents Nevada's 1st Congressional District, will decorate the National Christmas Tree with 12 ornaments styled by children and adults from Opportunity Village, a nonprofit group that works with the city’s intellectually disabled.

Dressed in smocks and with paintbrushes in hand, Titus watched members of Opportunity Village on Thursday make their mark on melon-size orbs that will hang in front of the White House at President’s Park. This year will mark the 93rd lighting of the National Christmas Tree and the ornaments from Las Vegas will join others from across the country.

“I am humbled to join the young men and women of Opportunity Village to decorate ornaments that will be viewed by thousands of visitors to the White House,” Titus said. “I can think of no greater representation of Nevada’s 1st District.”

The National Christmas Tree is no longer cut. It is a blue spruce from Virginia that is planted on park grounds and stands 28 feet tall.
