Drought committee finishing work on recommendations

CARSON CITY — A drought committee today put the final touches on recommendations that will be forwarded to Gov. Brian Sandoval next month.

Committee Chairman Leo Drozdoff said some of the suggestions can be acted upon immediately and others would require changes to the law.

Committee member John Entsminger said many recommendations already are in place at the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

One recommendation calls for the state to establish a bond program to improve aging water systems. The committee also said there must be a consistent public message from different state programs about water use and drought conditions.

Drozdoff, director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said there must be “good and robust planning.”

A special legislative committee also is being formed to study water laws in Nevada.
