Getting to play a football game over Thanksgiving weekend is reserved for the best of the best in Nevada high school football.

Your team practices on Turkey Day, and two days later in the state semifinals, the stands are typically packed for the only game in town. Those crowds include players from other teams whose seasons having already ended.

Tonight, we play down from six local teams in the Division I to next week’s semifinal participants.

Bishop Gorman, the six-time defending state champions who are ranked No. 1 nationally, takes on Northwest League champ Arbor View (10-1) in what is expected to be the game of the night. Gorman has scored more than 60 points against each area team it has played this season, but Arbor View has athletes on both sides of the ball and its players have said all week they are up to the challenge.

Gorman, though, hasn’t lost to a Nevada opponent since 2008, and Arbor View will have its hands full pulling off what would be an upset for the ages. The winner plays in Reno next weekend against the Northern Region champ.

In the Sunrise Region, five-time champ Liberty hosts Green Valley in the semifinals, and Southeast League champ Basic takes on visiting Silverado. The winners meet next week in the Sunrise championship game, which doubles as the state semifinals.

Saturday, Moapa Valley plays for its second straight Division I-A state title when it faces Churchill County of Fallon in the championship game at Reno High.

We’ll keep everyone posted throughout the night and weekend. Join the conversation on Twitter using #702hsfb and #sunstandout.
